...The History continued

In the late 1940s Martin handed the business to his son William. William worked hard in the business with help from family members. This work was only seasonal and for the rest of the time he worked for a local building firm. He married Lacy Kelly and they had 3 children, William known as Bill, Jean and Brenda. Lacy was well known for her rolled herrings, which were her speciality, and were baked in a coal fire oven!

During the early 1970s William passed the family business to his son Bill, who ran the business for 20 years with the occasional help from his 3 nephews Barry, Derek, and Alan (who were all Jean’s sons) and who were keen to learn the trade.

In 1991 Derek was given the opportunity to become a partner with his uncle Bill, and together they ran the business until Bill retired some 15 years ago. Bill celebrated his 80th birthday in April 2009. On Bill’s retirement Barry became a partner with his brother Derek. The 2 brothers still run the family business today in the same way as their great great grandfather William and great grandfather Martin Fortune.
